(09 Oct 09 - RV)U.S. President Barack Obama has won the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize. The
Nobel committee selected Obama out of a record 205 nominees because of "his extraordinary
efforts” to strengthen international diplomacy and promote nuclear disarmament. A
statement released by the Holy See Press Office said the Vatican greeted with appreciation
the awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize to President Obama in the light of his commitment
to the promotion of peace in the international arena, and especially his efforts with
to regard nuclear disarmament. It added, that it is hoped that this important recognition
encourages further such efforts difficult but crucial to the future of humanity, so
