Philippines Death Toll on the Rise

(29 Sept 09 - RV) Philippine authorities braced today for another storm as the death toll from rain and floods at the weekend mounted to 240. Ketsana dumped more than a month's worth of average rainfall on Manila and surrounding areas in one 24-hour period. More than 1.8 million people have been affected and 375,000 have abandoned their homes and taken refuge in evacuation centres.
