Czech’s students welcome letter to Pope prior to visit
(Sept: 16,2009): University students of the Czech Republic in a letter on Wed.
to Pope Benedict XVI , expressed great joy at his upcoming visit to the country
Sept. 26-28. We express our gratitude that you come to encourage and strengthen
our faith in Christ, especially during the period of our study,” they said. Pointing
out that the number of Catholic students at the University is not so great, the students
say they try to do their best to train the community. They mention that in large university
cities like Prague, Brno, and Ostrava, there are independent civic associations managed
by the students themselves, to play a rich cultural and social role, with priority
given to the role of worship. In cities with less number of students there are communities
and students clubs, they said and bishops, priests and nuns are active in the field
of campus ministry. As a community of young believers, we want to contribute to
the overall development of society, laying stress on spiritual values and culture,
said the students. Stating that they want to be witnesses of Christ, and an example
to other young people, the students express their gratitude to the Pope for having
placed so much hope and trust in them. The letter of the Czech university students
concludes with the hope that the Pope’s presence among them, will become a new source
of spiritual renewal of the whole society. On their part, they say they want to exploit
their University period not only to study, but to give their utmost commitment to
the Kingdom of God and the human family.
