Church seeks to achieve God’s saving plan of communion among nations
(Sept.16,2009): “The specific pastoral care of the migratory phenomenon is to
connect people of different nationalities, ethnicity and religions and thus contribute
to make visible the true physiognomy of the Church, and enhance the value and ecumenical
missionary dialogue of migration.” The remarks were made on Wed. by the Secretary
of the Pontifical Council for Pastoral Care of Migrants and Itinerant People, Archbishop
Agostino Marchetto in his address to the III National Congress of the Pastoral
Care of Human mobility. The September 16-18 Conference in taking place in Brasilia
- the capital of Brazil. Archbishop Marchetto said it is only basic theological,
ecclesial and pastoral care that will help achieve God’s saving plan of communion
among nations. In recent years, explained the prelate, the Church’s ministry
is directed towards others, to communicate their treasure and enrich it with new gifts
and values. It is our aim to accomplish our mission not only in so-called missionary
territories, traditionally in Africa and Asia, but everywhere, as today the inhabitants
of several continents are constantly on the move. Our Pontifical Council has sent
its lay associations and ecclesial movements, after consultation with the Pontifical
Council for the Laity, inviting them to get to the heart to serve the cause of migrants
in various countries, said Archbishop Marchetto.
