Pope Eagerly Awaiting Czech Trip

(September 10, 2009) Pope Benedict XVI affirmed Wednesday 9th of September, his "joyful awaiting" of his next international apostolic visit, which will bring him to the Czech Republic at the end of the month. The Pope mentioned his 13th foreign apostolic journey at the end of the general audience, in greetings to a group from Krnov and Prague. Pope Benedict’s predecessor, Pope John Paul II, visited the Czech Republic altogether three times; the last visit taking place in 1997. The Pope thanked them for their prayers and assured them that he is "awaiting with joy my visit to your homeland." The September 26-28 trip is scheduled to include a visit to the capital city of Prague, as well as to Brno and Stara Boleslav, where the Holy Father will participate in celebrations and the pilgrimage, commemorating the national patron, St. Wenceslaus. September 28, is the feast of Saint Wenceslas, patron Saint of the Czech Republic. During his visit the Holy Father is likely to meet with the president, and other Government officials. He is likely to visit the diocese of Brno and no Pope has ever visited the diocese since it was established in 1777.
