(Sept.08,2009): : Ireland is remembering the 30th anniversary of the visit
of late Pope John Paul II to the country in 1979. The addresses and homilies that
the Pontiff gave during his 1979 pilgrimage to Ireland are available on the Irish
bishops' Web site. The discourses can be read or listened to at www.catholicbishops.ie.
There is a video introduction from Bishop Michael Smith of Meath, who was part of
the original organizing committee for Pope John Paul’ II’s pilgrimage to Ireland.
The site also has photographs recording the highlights of the three-day pilgrimage
in Ireland from Sept. 29 through Oct. 1. Some 2.5 million people attended the seven
public venues of his pastoral visit.
