G8 to Focus on World's Poorest Nations

(10 July 09 - RV) Africa takes centre stage at the Group of Eight summit today, with wealthy nations eager to reassure critics they will honour past aid pledges and approve a new $15 billion agriculture programme.
Deputy Executive Director for External Relations of the World Food Programme, Staffan de Mistura, says Pope Benedict’s encyclical released earlier this week has been an inspiration to the summit.
