New General Takes Over US and NATO Operations in Afghanistan
(15 Jun 09 - RV) Gen. Stanley McChrystal, a four-star American general with a long
history in special operations, today took charge of U.S. and NATO troops in Afghanistan.
The general has already pledged to reduce the number of Afghan villagers killed in
fighting, saying he intends to review U.S. and allied operating procedures with an
eye to minimizing civilian deaths. But the International Committee of the Red Cross’
spokesperson in Kabul, Jessica Barry, reminded us that the civilians in the conflict
zones are not the only ones who are affected by the war...
