(April 30,2009):The General Prayer intention for the month of May is that the laity
and Christian communities may be responsible promoters of priestly and religious vocations.
Stating that Christians in many parts of the world, complain of the scarcity of vocations
for the priesthood and consecrated life, and think they can do no nothing about it,
the prayer intention of the month of May points out - that the faithful are committed
in a special way to promoting vocations. It says the problem of vocations must not
be considered only a concern of pastors, as lay people and the entire community also
have the responsibility of actively participating in the promotion of vocations.
It affirms that this can be done through constant prayer - unwavering and full
of trust, as prayer moves the heart of God, and is a powerful key in resolving the
lack of vocations. Along with prayer, the work of fostering vocations also requires
a constant effort to bring the need to people’s attention through personal witness,
so that the call of God may get a generous response.
