(20 Apr 09 - RV) Today marks ten years since the deadly shooting at Columbine High
School in Colorado, when two students claimed the lives of 12 peers and a teacher
before turning their weapons on themselves. The massacre shocked the country like
no other. It was the worst school assault in American history at that time, and it
came in the wake of a half-dozen others.
Teen violence is still an issue today
both in the United States and around the world. Dr. Jem Sullivan is the coordinator
of assessment in the Secretariat for Evangelization and Catechesis in the United States
Conference of Catholic Bishops. She spoke with us about the church’s response to teen
violence.
