(05 March 09-RV)The Church in Italy is asking young people to turn off their mobile
phones, ipod’s and computers for Lent, concerned with young Italians apparent obsession
with the technological world. In his message for this 24th World Youth
Day Pope Benedict cautions that technology alone cannot offer much hope, only God
can. Bishop Kieran Conry of Brighton and Arundel England spoke to Emer McCarthy about
Pope Benedict’s message to young people. He says that the Pope’s consistent call
on today’s youth to have hope is encouraging for them in a world where they are often
given bad press:
