Apostolic Nuncio to Sri Lanka

(February 21, 2009) The Holy Father has appointed Reverend Monsignor Joseph Spiteri, Director of Nunciature so far at the Section for Relations with States, as Apostolic Nuncio in Sri Lanka,at the same time raising the seat of Serta, with dignity of Archbishop. Bishop Joseph SPITERI was born in Sliema (Malta) on 20 May 1959. He was- Ordained Priest June 29 1984 in Malta. He has completed his degree in Canon Law. He entered the diplomatic service of the Holy See on 15 July 1988, and has worked as the Pontifical Representations in Panama, Iraq, Mexico, Portugal, Greece, Venezuela and finally at the Section for Relations with States of the Secretariat of State. He is well versed in English, Italian, French, Spanish and Portuguese languages.
