Pope Reminds Legislators of Duty to Protect Life

(18 February 09-RV) After the General Audience, Pope Benedict met with the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the United States, Nancy Pelosi. Pelosi, a baptized Catholic, is well known in the United States for her pro-abortion stance. Last year the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops said she misrepresented the teachings of the Catholic Church on abortion during a nationally televised interview in the lead-up to the 2008 US elections.
