(25 Jan 09 - RV) U.N. special envoy Ibrahim Gambari will visit military-ruled Myanmar
later this week, to try to revive negotiations between the junta and detained opposition
leader Aung San Suu Kyi. Last August, Gambari failed twice to meet the Nobel peace
laureate, who has been under house arrest for most of the past five years. The East
Asia Team Leader at Christian Solidarity Worldwide, Ben Rogers told us the humanitarian
situation in Myanmar continues to be serious, more than a year after Cyclone Nargis
killed at least 150 thousand people and caused billions of dollars of damage to the
country, which is ruled by an oppressive military junta…
