Pope meets Catholic and Muslim delegations at end of general audience.


(Dec.17,2008):- Pope Benedict XVI on Wed. met the delegations from Vatican’s Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue and the World Islamic Call Society of Tripoli, Libya, at the conclusion of their meeting held in Rome Dec.15-17. Cardinal Jean Louis Tauran, President of the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue headed the Catholic delegation comprising of 12 participants. The Muslim eleven-member delegation was led by Mr. Ibrahim Rabou – Head of Int. Orgs and Relief . The theme of the meeting was “Responsibilities of Religious leaders especially in times of crises”.
In a final communique issued at the conclusion of their 3-day meeting, both the Catholic and Muslim participants agreed on several points. They said the first and most important responsibility of religious leaders is to fulfil their religious tradition through good deeds and giving a good example. They also agreed on a special responsibility towards youth, so they do not fall victims to religious fanaticism. The two parties jointly decided to hold their next meeting in Tripoli within the next two years.
