Prosecutor Says Kenya Has Failed to Act Against Rwanda Genocide Fugitive
(13 Dec 08 - RV) The chief U.N. prosecutor for Rwanda, Hassan Jallow, has said
that Kenya has failed to act against a top fugitive despite information from Kenya's
own police force indicating his presence in the country. Jallow’s accusation was accompanied
by a renewed call to prioritize bringing 13 remaining fugitives wanted for genocide,
war crimes and crimes against humanity in Rwanda to justice. Gary Haugen
is the founder of the International Justice Mission and the UN appointed lead investigator
into the Rwandan Genocide. He told us more about the 1994 genocide in which ethnic
Hutu militias slaughtered some 800,000 Tutsis and moderate Hutus in 100 days of carnage
in the Central African country.
