Orissa Police to meet raped nun between Nov.17 and Nov. 20
(Nov.18,2008):- In India’s eastern State of Orissa, the Crime Branch – CB, of the
local police, plans to meet the nun raped during the anti Christian violence in Orissa
State on Tuesday in New Delhi.A two-member police team reached Delhi on Monday in
attempts to meet the nun, who was evading state police on the ground that she has
“no faith” in the state police, who did not help her when she was attacked. The
team is scheduled to meet the nun along with Father Thomas Chelan, the only witness
to the incident which took place at Nuagaon village under Baliguda Police station
in Kandhamal district. Though the nun and the priest filed a case at the Baliguda
police station on August 26, a day after the alleged incident, they soon left Orissa.
The meeting with the nun and the police is considered significant, as it is the first
time they meet the nun after the complaint was filed. The CB was handed over
investigation of the case on September 4. Though CB arrested 10 persons in connection
with the incident, the nun had not yet identified her violators. The nun and the
priest have agreed to meet the police between November 17 and November 20. However,
the police said they would agree upon the venue of the meeting at the last moment.
