Italian Religious Sisters Battle for Right to Life
(18 Nov 08 - RV) The Misericordine sisters of Lecco, Italy have refused to cooperate
with a court order to remove the nutrition and hydration tube of a young woman who
has been in a minimal state of consciousness since a car accident in 1992. On Friday, the
highest court of appeals of Italy upheld a previous court’s ruling that Eluana Englaro
may be killed by the removal of her food and hydration tube.
The case has
drawn international attention because of its similarity to the case of Terry Schiavo,
who was killed when her food and hydration tube was removed in March, 2005.
We
spoke with Monsignore Ignacio Barreiro, director of the Rome Office of Human life
International.

hundreds of patients in similar condition in Italy:
