conflicts, 6 million have been left crippled, 300,000 child soldiers have been recruited
More than 4.3 million children have died of AIDS.
According to delegates at
the Vatican Council for Healthcare’s plenary assembly on Pastoral care for sick children;
"poverty remains the principal cause of childhood diseases. Even in the richest countries,
where one child out of six lives below the poverty level.

Pat O’Donovan, Director of Clinical Pastoral Education, St. Vincent’s University Hospital,
Dublin, one of the many taking part in the 3 day summit.
