San Marino’s new ambassador to H.See presents letters of Credence to Pope
(Nov.13, 2008):- “Every nation and every institution, large or small, is called today,
to work actively to build an international community based on shared human and spiritual
values”, Pope Benedict XVI told the new ambassdador of the Republic of San Marino
to the Holy See, when he presented his letters of Credence on Thursday. The Pope
told Ambassador Sante Carducci that the Republic of San Marino with its ancient
history, rich in cultural and religious traditions, could play a vital role in the
education for peace of future generations and the protection of the family – the
basic cell of society. The Pope hoped that cordial relations already existing between
the Republic of San Marino and the Holy See would intensify and said the Holy See
would give its full cooperation in the fulfilment of his mission. San Marino
in the Apennine Mountains is a landlocked enclave completely surrounded by Italy.
San Marino’s constitution dating back to 1600 is the world’s oldest written constitution
still in effect. One of the European microstates, San Marino has the smallest population
of all the members of the Council of Europe.
