Violence Continues in Democratic Republic of Congo
(12 Nov 08 - RV) U.N. peacekeeping spokesman Col. Jean-Paul Dietrich today said Congolese
army troops have reportedly raped civilians near the town of Kan-ya-bay-on-ga during
the cource of violent attacks earlier this week. The situation in the Kivu provinces
of the Congo have been tense since a Tutsi rebel force captured large parts of the
area. The United Nations security council is being asked to send more peacekeepers
to the region to keep it from turning into a regional war, like the one which killed
nearly 4 million people in a five year conflict which ended in 2004. Charles Collins
