Church in Orissa mourns death of priest injured in violence
(Oct.30,2008):- The Church in India’s eastern State of Orissa state is grieving over
the death of Fr. Bernard Digal, who was attacked during anti-Christian violence.
The funeral Mass of the 47-year old priest, who succumbed to his injuries Oct. 28
in Chennai’s St. Thomas Hospital, Tamilnadu State, will be held on Friday Oct. 31st
in St. Vincent’s Cathedral in Bhubaneshwar. His burial will take place immediately
after in the nearby cemetery of the Cathedral. Fr.Digal, who was the treasurer
of Cuttack-Bhubaneswar archdiocese, was consecrated priest in 1992, and served the
archdiocese as parish priest, professor, vocation promoter, youth director, diocesan
counselor, financial manager and spiritual adviser. He was born in Tiangia, a village
in Kandhamal district in Orissa .
