(18 Oct 08 - RV) Zimbabwean opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai said today he hoped
a power-sharing deal would work but that there was a problem of trust between him
and President Robert Mugabe. Both parties trying to break a deadlock in Zimbabwe’s
political crisis have asked the Southern African Development Community for help. After
four days of negotiations, talks broke down yesterday over continuing disagreements
on the allocation of Cabinet posts in a new unity government. SADC countries are
due to hold a meeting in Swaziland on Monday where the current situation in the country
will be discussed. Spokesperson for the Zimbabwe Vigil in London, Dennis Benton, says
prospects for a deal at the meeting are low.
