Suspected thieves attack Jamshedpur Church

(September 25, 2008) Suspected thieves ransacked St. Mary’s Church in Bistupur area of Jamshedpur and took away all brassware inside it, worrying Christians in the wake of recent anti-Christian violence in several parts of India. The Church people said they cannot confirm any sectarian angle to it but the miscreants meticulously planned the Tuesday night operation. They had bolted the house near the church from outside. Three priests were inside that when the incident happened. The church came to know of it on Wednesday morning. The thieves also took away the holy water stand, flower vase, candle stand and lamp stand — all made of brass and all antique pieces from the 60 year old church. The police said thieves were well aware of the position of the brassware in the church.
