Pope returns to Castelgandolfo after Bressanone vacation.

(August 12,2008): Serenaded by an oompah band and chiming church bells, Pope Benedict XVI ended a two-week vacation in the Italian Alps on Monday and returned to his summer residence in Castelgandolfo not far from Rome. The 81-year-old pontiff looked well rested, as he said goodbye from the main window of the seminary in the north-eastern town of Bressanone, where he was staying. “ All good things must come to an end, but I bring with me beautiful memories,” Pope Benedict told a crowd of several hundred gathered in front of the 18th century building. His parting words in German were “Auf wiedersehen” meaning “Until we meet again.”
Pope Benedict came to Bressanone on the heels of his gruelling trip to Australia in July for World Youth Day, and spent most of his time reading, writing and relaxing in the seminary's garden. Vatican spokesman, Jesuit Fr. Federico Lombardi, said the Pope worked on the second volume of his book about Jesus , the first was a best-seller, and speeches for his upcoming trip to France in mid-September.
The Pope spent most of his time in the privacy of the seminary and its garden.During the two-week stay, he held his traditional Sunday public prayer in the square in front of the town's cathedral, met with the local clergy in a question-and-answer session in the cathedral and received honorary citizenship of Bressanone in a public ceremony. “He vacationed the way he wanted,” said the town’s Bishop Wilheim Egger, noting that residents had respected the Pope's request for peace and quiet. On his return to the summer residence of Castel Gandolfo, Pope Benedict is scheduled to resume his regular public audiences.
