Report Warns Primates Species at Risk of Extinction

(06 Aug 08 - RV) An international report released yesterday says nearly half the world’s monkeys and apes are facing an ever more grave threat of extinction.

Habitat destruction like the burning and clearing of tropical forests, which also emits at least 20 percent of the global greenhouse gases, is a major threat to primates.

Other threats include the hunting of primates for food and illegal wildlife trade.
