(28 July 08 - RV) Cambodia and Thailand today resumed talks aimed at ending an armed
standoff near a historic Hindu temple over a long-running border dispute.
The
row has prompted the southeast Asian neighbors to post several thousand troops near
11th century Preah Vihear temple for nearly two weeks, however officials from both
countries are expressing optimism that a solution is near.
Secretary of the
Oxford University Asia-Pacific Society Charles Monthienvichienchai told us more about
why the flare-up is occurring at this particular time.
