Cardinal Rylko greets young people on opening of WYD
(July,15, 2008):- “The long awaited moment has finally come and the World Youth Day
is here”, Cardinal Stanislaw Rylko – President of the Pontifical Council for WYD told
the huge gathering of youth from all over the world in Sydney, Australia. Greeting
Bishops, priests, religious, lay leaders and the thousands of young people at the
opening of the Mass for the 23rd WYD on Tuesday evening 15 July. Cardinal
Rylko said “Each world youth day is an invitation to young people to choose to become
disciples of Jesus Christ and missionaries of the Gospel. “You have come to this meeting
with the Holy Father Pope Benedict XVI bringing with you, your hopes, your plans
for the future and your faith filled with enthusiasm”, he said. “You also bring your
questions that have not found an answer and the problems you cannot solve alone.”
Telling them that their only hope lies in Jesus of Nazreth – the teacher and guide
who will not disappoint them, Cardinal Rylko told them that at this special youth
event comes the invitation to them, to re-discover the importance of the action of
the Holy Spirit, to become more aware of the presence of the Holy Spirit in their
lives , get to know him better and above all, allow themselves to be guided by the
Holy Spirit in the choices that will mark their course in life. He prayed that they
might experience a new Pentecost in Sydney.
