(18 June 08 - RV) South Africa's President Thabo Mbeki made a previously unannounced
trip to neighboring Zimbabwe today, amid mounting concern over the brutal political
violence there. Mbeki's foreign affairs ministry issued a statement saying the trip
was part of his efforts to mediate between Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe and
opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai, who face off in a presidential runoff June 27.
