Zimbabweans Suffer from World's Highest Inflation Rate
(14 June 08 - RV)
Zimbabwe’s President Robert Mugabe vowed today that the opposition
Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) would never rule the country and that he was
prepared to fight to keep them from taking power.
MDC leader Morgan Tsvangirai
and 11 MDC campaign colleagues were held by police for three hours earlier today after
being taken into custody at a roadblock in the morning.
Tsvangirai, who has
been detained several times over the past week, is contesting a run-off vote against
President Robert Mugabe on June 27th.
As the country’s political crisis continues
during the run-up to the election, ordinary Zimbabwean citizens continue to suffer
because of a failing economy and the highest inflation rate in the world.
