(02 May 08 - RV) The Chief of the Army of Thailand told his top commanders today
the military would not intervene in a worsening political struggle, saying the crisis
must be resolved by the rule or law. A week of anti-government protests in Bangkok
had ignited fears that the military may stage another coup, two years after a similar
street campaign against then Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra led to his ouster in
a bloodless revolt.
