Fears of Military Coup in Thailand


(02 May 08 - RV) The Chief of the Army of Thailand told his top commanders today the military would not intervene in a worsening political struggle, saying the crisis must be resolved by the rule or law. A week of anti-government protests in Bangkok had ignited fears that the military may stage another coup, two years after a similar street campaign against then Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra led to his ouster in a bloodless revolt.
