(30 May 07 - RV) Pope Benedict XVI today received a group of bishops from Myanmar,
who are in Rome for their ad limina visits.
His Excellency, Francis
Daw Tang, bishop of Myitkyina, spoke with us about his encounter with the Holy Father…
"Pope
Benedict XVI – I am very happy to see him, and wanting to meet [about] the effort
of evangelization in our community, and I feel that he has very great interest on
that".
The Bishop also talked about the cultural and pastoral challenges
facing the young people of his diocese, which is in the north of Burma near the border
with China…
"Our young people are active, but because of so many limitations,
even though they are graduated, no job opportunities, so many of our young people
are going away from the country, from the diocese, so, I feel that we really need
to encourage our young people, how to love their culture, how to build up their livelihood
there in their own respective diocese or parishes".
The Bishops began their
ad limina visits on Monday, May 26th.
