(26 May 08 - RV) The President of the Pontifical Council for Migrants and Itinerant
Peoples has sent a telegram of solidarity to the Archbishop of Johannesburg, and President
of the South African Catholic Bishops Conference, Buti Tlahagale following the recent
violence that has affected foreigners in the country.
In the Telegram Cardinal
Renato Raffaele Martino expresses his deep condolences on behalf of the dicastery
to the families of the deceased and his sympathy to all those who have been affected
by what he called these “deplorable events”.
The Cardinal also offers prayerful,
and moral support and adds that with the fraternal interventions of the church he
is confident that a lasting solution for this and other such situations will be found
and that the people in the region will again live in peace, and solidarity.
The
Rector of the International Missionary College of St. Paul the Apostle, Fr Daniel
Corijn, recently moved to Rome after 26 years of work in South Africa.
