UK Extradition Treaty Underway to Bring Sex Offenders to Justice
(03 May 08 - RV)
The Philippines and Britain said today they are set to start
work on an extradition treaty for paedophiles and other sex offenders.
Reports
suggest that British men are allegedly among the main perpetrators of child prostitution
in the Philippines.
The United Nations has said the Philippines is among a
number of developing countries that have become centres for the sex tourism industry,
which exploits mostly women and children.
Christine Beddoe is the director
of the UK branch of ECPAT, or End Child Prostitution and Trafficking. She said extradition
procedures are necessary to bring many offenders to justice.
