Sri Lankan Bishop's Lament Violence of War

(07 Apr 08 - RV) A Tamil Tiger suicide bomber attacked the opening ceremony of a marathon yesterday in Sri Lanka’s capital. The blast killed Highways Minister Jeyaraj Fernandopulle, a former Olympian and 12 others. This is the second bombing this year that has killed a senior government official.


The military reacted by sending air force jets to the rebel base believed used to train the suicide attacker. The bombs destroyed the base early today.


Archbishop of Colombo Oswald Gomis says that the government feels that peace will have to be achieved by a military solution.
