Israel Agrees To Limited Provisions for Palestinians Trapped in Gaza


(22 Jan 08-RV) Egyptian border guards fired in the air and used clubs and water cannons to drive back hundreds of Palestinian women and children who surged across the border from Gaza today demanding the frontier to be opened for shipments of food and essential provisions. The Palestinian Health Ministry said 20 women and children were injured in the scuffle.
Meanwhile, Israel offfered limited respite from the blockade that has left 1.5 million Gaza residents without access to essential goods or power for days. Responding to international protests after much of the coastal strip was plunged into darkness, Israel today allowed four days' worth of European Union-funded fuel supplies to the Gaza’s main power plant.
