Msgr. Joseph Marino, New Apostolic Nuncio to Bangladesh
(Jan. 14, 2007) Pope Benedict XVI has appointed a new Apostolic Nuncio to Bangladesh.
U.S.-born Msgr. Joseph Marino, who is serving as councillor at the Apostlic Nunciature
in Great Britain is the Holy See’s new representative to Bangladesh. Msgr. Marino
succeeds Archbishop Paul Tschang In-Nam who, last August, was transferred to Uganda
as Apostolic Nuncio. With this appointment, Pope Benedict has elevated the 54-year
old Msgr. to the rank of archbishop. Msgr. Joseph Marino was born in Birmingham
in the United States on Jan. 13, 1953. He was ordained a priest in 1979 and has
a degree in Canon Law. After entering the diplomatic service fo the Holy See in 1988
he has served in the Vatican’s mission in the Philippines, Uruguay, Nigeria, at the
Vatican Secretariat of State and in Great Britain. Besides his native tongue, English,
Msgr. Marino also knows Italian, French and Spanish.
