(27 Nov 07 - RV) The Korean bishops have begun their ad limina pilgrimage to the Holy
See, and during the next few days they will have a series of meetings with Pope Benedict
XVI and officials of the Roman Curia. There are over 5 million Catholics in the
Korean Church, the majority in the South, making it the 4th largest catholic
nation in Asia. Despite this the bishops have expressed their concern over spreading
secularism as well as the challenges of abortion, the death penalty, stem cell research
and the nuclear arms race. Today defence ministers from North and South of the border
which has divided the peninsula for over 50 years, held key talks today in Pyongyang,
focusing on improving relations between the two countries and ending North Korea’s
nuclear program. John Swenson Wright is a lecturer in international relations at
