(10 Aug 07 - RV) Pakistan's Supreme Court today gave the Election Commission thirty
days to register all eligilble voters for the next vote. This, after complaints that
millions of citizens were missing from draft electoral lists. President Pervez Musharraf,
who seized power in a military coup eight years ago, is under mouting pressure to
ensure free and fair polls. Chairman of the Board of Governors at the University
of Lahore, Muhammad Abdul Raoof, says the U.S. interest in the forthcoming elections
could be positive.
