(1 Aug 07 - RV ) The president of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace says
nuclear power should be considered a useful energy source, and criticized countries
which have banned the technology on principal. Cardinal Renato Raffaele Martino was
commenting on the Pope’s Sunday angelus appeal for nuclear disarmament and the peaceful
use of nuclear energy. The pope’s remarks came on the 50th anniversary of the founding
of the United Nations international atomic energy agency. Gudrun sailor spoke to Cardinal
Martino about the significance of the anniversary.
