(22 July 07 - RV ) Pakistani security forces killed six pro-Taliban militants in fighting
in North Waziristan, today, after overnight battles left 13 rebels dead. Violence
has intensified in the volatile tribal region on the border with Afghanistan after
Islamist militants launched an offensive that has so far killed 180 people this month.
The situation has caused many to forget about those affected by Cyclone Yemyin, whose
Heavy rains just 4 weeks ago caused substantial destruction and drove scores of people
from there homes in Sindh and Balochistan. Patrick Nicholson is a spokesperson for
Caritas Internationalis. He told us that caritas launched an appeal this week after
discovering that more than 2 million people have been affected.
