(16 July 07 - RV) U.N. Inspectors today verified the shutdown of North Korea's main
nuclear reactor. The move is part of a deal agreed to in February, in which Pyonyang
pledged to disarm in exchange for fuel aid. The International Atomic Energy Agency
Chief said that the next step was to verify the shutdown of other nuclear facilities
and then disable them, something he warned would be "a complicated process." North
Korea Expert for Chatham House in the U.K., Dr. John Swenson-Wright says that while
the shutdown is important, it is just one step in a long process.
