Aspirations for peace in Middle East must never stop, says Prefect of Cong. of Eastern
Churches
(Tues.3July,2007) “Aspirations for peace must never stop. All nations and institutions,
and especially those with particular responsibilities and possibilities must encourage
and seek peace wherever necessary,” said the Prefect of the Congregation for Eastern
Churches - Archbishop Leonardo Sandri. He made the appeal on Tuesday, to several
Ambassadors and diplomats of Europe, the Middle East and other Nations at his headquarters
in Rome, when he called for peace in the Holy Land, Iraq and the Lebanon. Recalling
the constant appeals for peace in the Middle East made by Pope Benedict XVI and
late Pope John Paul II, Archbishop Sandri at noon on Tuesday, lit the lamp for peace
in the Middle East in front of an icon of the Mother of God. He said the Congregation
will always continue to keep vigil over the grave situation and encourage all possible
solidarity towards the Churches and the suffering people of the Middle East Region.
