(12 June 07 - RV) His beatitude Chrysostomos II, Archbishop of New Justiniana and
All Cyprus arrived today in Rome on official visit. The agenda for his four day stay
includes prayers at the tomb of Saint Cyril in the basilica of San Clemente and with
the St Egidio community in the basilica of Santa Maria in Trastevere. However the
highlight of the trip is Saturdays’ meeting with Pope Benedict XVI, during the course
of which a common declaration will be signed. Philippa Hitchen spoke to Cardinal
Walter Kasper president of the pontifical council for Christian unity, about the ecumenical
importance of the event.
