Pope Benedict XVI expresses grief for bomb blast victims of Lebanon
(Wed.14 Feb.2007):- Profound grief was expressed by Pope Benedict XVI for the grave
attempt in Lebanon, Tuesday 13 February, when two deadly bomb blasts on buses in
a Christian area, north-east of Beirut, killed at least 3 people and wounded some
20. Witnesses said the two buses were driving people to work. A condolence telegram
sent in the Pontiff’s name by Vatican Secretary of State – Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone,
expressed the Pope’s prayers for the victims and his nearness to the suffering families.
The condolence telegram also invoked the maternal protection of the Virgin Mary on
the entire Nation of Lebanon and urged Lebanese people and the leaders to unanimously
reject violence and seek national unity and the common welfare of all.
