“Be zealous promoters of genuine missionary spirit” Pope Benedict XVI tells Episcopal
Conferences of Africa and Madagascar.
Wed. 17 Jan,2007):- Pope Benedict XVI has encouraged the Bishops of Africa and Madascagar
to be zealous promoters of a genuine missionary spirit among the people entrusted
to their pastoral care, so that the Church in their countries may continue to play
its full part in God’s plan for the salvation of the human race . The Pontiff’s message
was sent Jan 16 by Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Tarciscio Bertone to Archbishop
John Onaiyekan of Abuja – President of the Episcopal Conferences of Africa and Madagascar.The
Plenary Assembly of the Symposium of the said Episcopal Conferences is taking place
in Dar es Salaam from 14 to 22 January. The Papal message also prayed that the
local churches renew their commitment to the important mission of evangelization.
It called on the Bishops to be attentive to the proper formation of candidates to
the priesthood and consecrated life, overseeing the quality of human, spiritual and
intellectual training they receive.
