Battle for Wealth of Niger Delta Turns Violent

(23 Dec 06 RV) A car bomb exploded today outside a government building in Nigeria's southern oil hub of Port Harcourt. The Nigerian militant group MEND claimed responsibility.
The group, which is fighting for greater regional control over the delta's oil wealth, is already holding three Italians and one Lebanese oil workers after a raid on an Italian oil export terminal on Dec. 7.
