Vatican plans new outreach to Islam, says Cardinal Tarciscio Bertone.
(Tues.16 Oct):- A November trip by Pope Benedict XVI to Turkey will be a new step forward in inter-religious and inter-cultural dialogue, said Vatican Secretary of State. In a conversation with the Italian RAI2 television network, Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone underlined the intention of the Holy See to continue efforts at inter-religious dialogue, especially with Islam. Squelching notions of a clash of civilizations, the Italian cardinal pointed to the centuries and centuries of peaceful coexistence among different religious groups for example in Iraq. The Vatican confirmed Monday, Oct 16, Pope Benedict XVI’s Nov. 28 –Dec.1st trip to Turkey, saying the visit will begin in Ankara, the Turkish capital.
