(20 Sept 06 - RV) The Holy See's Permanent Observer for the United Nations, Archbishop
Silvano Tomasi, yesterday spoke of the Church's emphasis on respect for other faiths
and the value of inter-faith dialogue. Addressing the UN's Human Rights Council in
Geneva, Archbishop Tomasi referred to Pope Benedict's speech in Regensburg last week
and its intention to promote understanding between faiths. He later told us that the
Pope's words had been misunderstood in some quarters and stressed that Holy See's
committment to promoting deeper knowledge of other beliefs...
