(18 September 06 - RV) Efforts are continuing today to broker a peace deal in Uganda
after 19 years of conflict. Hopes of a breakthrough were raised last night after rebel
leader Joseph Kony turned up at a neutral camp in Southern Sudan as part of a truce
deal. Kony is wanted by the International Criminal Court for war crimes and crimes
against humanity. U.N. officials estimate the rebels have kidnapped 20,000 children
over that time, turning the boys into soldiers and the girls into sex slaves for rebel
commanders. Father Giulio Albanese worked for years in Uganda and founded the Misna
News Agency. He spoke to us about his hopes for peace in the region.
